Forged with our open die forging process, individually forged blocks from Mattco Forge Inc. offer a number of advantages over rolled or extruded plate or bar. By further refining the grain structure through the forging process, forged bar offers better strength in all three dimensions, yielding greater impact and direction strength to the forged bar and your finished part. Shape forging is a closed die forging process wherein hot metal is shaped within the walls of two dies that come together to enclose the work piece on all sides. Due to the complexity of the geometries that can be obtained through this process and the strains involved, several dies may be used sequentially to go from the initial bar to the final shape. Through this process Mattco Forge Inc. can produce parts that hold incredibly tight tolerances while offering the strength advantages of forged metal components.
